Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that results in small, flat-topped, itchy bumps on the skin. The exact cause of lichen planus is unknown, however, it is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells. Other potential causes may include certain medications, allergic reactions, or exposure to chemicals.
